Thank You, WISD!!

One Love Symposium wants to give a big shout out of GRATITUDE to the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) for including One Love’s Teen Writing Contest flyer with yesterday’s Literacy Newsletter! https://miteacherlitnews.blogspot.com/

You may have a little trouble finding it because it's the very last item and there’s no announcement around it there’s just the flyer, but we realized that was an oversight on our part and, even as we are just beginning to understand the processes associated with the publication aspect of this project, we know that the reason there is SUPPORT from a formal establishment entity like the WISD is because the project is worthwhile and important  - This is a revolutionary time for education and the One Love Symposium is a TRULY revolutionary project.

The One Love Symposium is an example of the type of Community Engaged Creative Inquiry process that can best support young people at this turning point in American Democratic Education. The One Love Symposium offers an opportunity for community stakeholders at every level to contribute to the improvement of human interface skills for a variety of high impact professions.

At this time, we are coming to the close of Phase 1 of a 3-Phase process to collect survey information from a diverse group of young people and their chosen communities.

A dedicated group of 5 young people (including the same-age child of the researcher) are engaged in a process of instrument co-creation and data collection at the community level.

Young people are a critical starting point from which to ask certain questions. The central question of the One Love Symposium, based on what we’ve learned in the past several decades about equity, is an opportunity to create a community-sourced professional learning curriculum to support the improved practices of a variety of workers whose essential duty is that of gatekeeper or judge.

The Human Services Professional is vested with great power, high impact decision-making power, because the Human Services Professional controls the moment of entry into essential services. The Human Services Professional is the first person you see when you need something who is empowered to make a judgement about YOU! The Human Services Professional determines if you are to be ignored, forgiven or punished. The Human Services Professional determines whether you’ll gain access to the resources you desire or whether you’ll be denied.

The announcement on the WISD site details the criteria for engagement with our Teen Writing Contest. We want to draw your attention to the Teacher Compensation formula and details about the submission window which opens Sept. 1st . Please check out our website for all the details and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. Thank you so much for your interest in this project!
